Goals: To get young people interested in wildlife issues, build self-confidence and pass on skills
Funding: 52,000 a year for three years from the Community Fund
Living in a town surrounded by beautiful countryside, you would expect young people in Ipswich to know more than most about wildlife issues.
But for some teenagers in the urban parts, these green areas might as well be a million miles away.
Set up last year by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, the Get Wild project helps local 14- to 21-year-olds who wouldn't normally get involved in youth projects to take part in environment activities. The project aims to get young people interested in wildlife and the environment, while addressing some of the social problems they face by signposting them to local agencies such as Connexions.
