Funding: The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund has provided 120,000 over two years
Goals: To increase the participation of young people in libraries and learning
Dressed in a trendy fitted T-shirt and trousers, 17-year-old Nana Aboagye does not look like a stereotypical librarian. But Nana is one of 17 Idea Champions who work in the library section at the Idea Store Bow in east London.
Paid 6.41 an hour, the Idea Champions work in shifts for six hours a week and, as the programme's name suggests, do far more than replace books on shelves. In addition to the normal librarian duties, the 16- to 19-year-olds play a central role in developing engaging ways to encourage young people to use the centre.
