Policy & Practice: Consultation of the week

Closing date: 6 August 2007

What's in it?

This National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence consultation allows teachers, school governors, and voluntary and community sector professionals the opportunity to have their say on draft guidance for teaching "sensible alcohol consumption".

Plans include:

Ensuring alcohol education is an "integral part" of the national science and personal, social and health education curricula. Also ensuring that alcohol education is tailored to different age groups.

What people say about it:

An Alcohol Concern spokesman says: "To provide harm reduction strategies we need to find a way to intervene in cases of children whose parents may be drinking and think of ways we can refer parents and children to appropriate help."
