Proposals to improve the education of 10- to 17-year-olds involved in the criminal justice system. The publication of the document, in April, followed a commitment to look at problems encountered by school-age offenders, made in a wider green paper on prison education for over-16s.
PLANS INCLUDE: Introducing measures to increase the participation of young people in education, and ensure the curriculum is tailored to their needs. It also considers workforce development.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT IT: Claire Bassett, director of operations atcrime-reduction charity Nacro, says: "We are particularly pleased that the paper recognises the need for appropriate provision that takes account of a wide range of circumstances."
