The leader of the House of Lords called for an expansion of Parliament's education programme to make the House more accessible to young people and suggested opening up the chamber for use by youth groups for debates.
Amos was speaking during a debate in response to Members Only? Parliament in the Public Eye, a report on making Parliament more accessible, published last year by a commission led by Lord Puttnam.
Amos suggested that members of the House of Lords help to further expand the Parliamentary Education Unit's outreach programme, by getting involved in outreach work.
Gemma Rosenblatt, research fellow for the Hansard Society, which set up the Puttnam Commission, said: "The most pleasing part of the debate was the agreement that, since society is changing so fast, incremental change is not enough. Things need to be done now."
