Members Only? Parliament in the Public Eye is the result of nearly 18 months of discussion by a commission of MPs, media representatives and academics, chaired by former film producer Lord Puttnam.
The Hansard Society set up the commission to investigate how Parliament can be better presented and was informed by a working group of four young people set up by the Carnegie Young People Initiative.
Among the recommendations in the report are a thorough review of the language and terminology used by Parliament and radical improvements to its web site to make it more interactive and easy to navigate.
The report says Parliament should work closely with other organisations to provide more youth-friendly information materials, employ more full-time staff who are fully trained in working with young people, and make its facilities available to groups of young people when Parliament is not sitting.
