Participation: Sport encourages other activities

Involving young people in sport at school encourages them to take part in other activities outside formal education, according to research.

A study of the Youth Sport Trust's Living for Sport scheme, by Loughborough University, has found nine in 10 young people took up extracurricular activities following the scheme.

The BSkyB funded initiative currently works with 500 schools and has plans for expansion.
