Participation: Eating survey plans to canvas toddlers

The National Children's Bureau (NCB) is looking for nurseries, childminders and playgroups to take part in a project that will gather the views of the youngest children on the food they eat.

The consultation will form part of NCB's Young Children's Voices Network, which aims to ensure the voices of children aged up to five years are heard by policy-makers.

It will be funded via NCB's strategic contract with Sure Start.

Ann-Marie McAuliffe, development officer for NCB's early childhood unit, said: "We're looking for a range of settings that can carry out consultation with children rather than us just coming in as strangers."

The bureau will be producing a leaflet about how settings can talk to children about food, which will be launched at a conference in March on diet and nutrition in early years.
