NCB Now: Make listening a way of life, says NCB

1 min read
The National Children's Bureau (NCB) has launched a series of five leaflets setting out the importance of listening to babies and young children.

The leaflets, Listening as a way of life, were produced in association with the Sure Start Unit. They act as an information guide, providing practitioners working with young children with the knowledge to design creative and individual ways of listening to and involving children.

"Listening to children is an integral part of understanding how they are feeling and what they need from their early years experience," said Ann-Marie McAuliffe, development officer in NCB's Early Childhood Unit and editor of the leaflets. "Knowing how to listen effectively is key to providing an environment in which all children feel safe and powerful."

The leaflets cover a range of topics, including supporting parents and carers, listening to disabled children, listening to babies, and equality issues, along with an introduction to the topic.
