The Government has increased funding for the post-16 citizenship development programme, run by the Learning and Skills Development Agency, from 1.4m to 1.7m.
The number of initiatives in England will expand from 79 to 120 in September.
Programmes are run locally by a consortium of youth groups, schools, colleges and training providers that receives 40,000 from the agency to establish schemes designed to stimulate young people's community involvement and make them more politically aware.
Initiatives to date include youth councils, student forums, mock elections and newsletters.
The agency had hoped for a bigger increase in funding and is applying to the European Social Fund for additional money.
