Participation: Co-ordinator job a first for England

The North East Regional Youth Work Unit is to appoint the country's first regional participation network co-ordinator.

The co-ordinator, who will start work by September, will support participation workers across the Northeast, working with the Regional Active Participation (RAP) group, which brings together professionals involved in youth participation.

Funding comes from the Department for Education and Skills, channelled through the Children and Young People's Participation Partnership, a consortium of six organisations including Carnegie Young People Initiative, which asked the Government for funds to pilot the role in one region.

The pilot will run until the end of March next year.
