YOUTH PARTICIPATION: Carnegie Trust to launch network

David Cutler, director of the Carnegie Young People Initiative, said: "Youth participation workers tend to be quite isolated. Often they are the only person in that job in a large organisation.

"And they are often pulled between advocating for young people in order to give them more power in public decision making on the one hand, and the demands of their employers on the other. So it can also be quite an exposed position."

The Carnegie UK Trust already funds a similar network in Scotland. The aim is to provide a means of communication for youth participation workers, as well as to share best practice. It is organising seminars, supporting an internet message board and publishing a directory of youth participation projects and personnel.
