PARTICIPATION: A little more conversation

Is the Labour Party's Big Conversation a con or real consultation? Tristan Donovan joined young people as they converged on 10 Downing Street to put their questions to Prime Minister Tony Blair.

But the Big Conversation has met with a rather frosty reception. Cynics have dismissed it as nothing more than a glorified programme of focus groups.

Reports that Labour had been deleting negative comments from the Big Conversation web site didn't add to the credibility of the exercise.

But despite this, Labour is pushing ahead with the scheme, including a Big Conversation event for young people hosted by Radio 1 DJ Trevor Nelson and attended by Tony Blair.

Thirty-three young people from across the UK, who had been recruited by youth participation project Kikass, got the chance to tell Blair face to face what they thought he should be doing.
