Speaking at a Big Conversation event for young people at 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister said: "On voting at 16 I am undecided, but if you had asked me that question two or three years ago I would have said no."
Constitutional affairs minister Lord Falconer said in The Observer on 7 December that lowering the voting age was part of the reform agenda he wanted to pursue.
Campaigners in favour of the age reduction welcomed Blair's comments.
Louise King, senior policy officer at the Children's Rights Alliance for England, said: "We were heartened by the Prime Minister's comments, although we would prefer him to say he supported votes at 16, especially since the Electoral Commission is reviewing the idea and that ultimately the decision is the Government's."
