Opinion: If I were in charge of ... road safety - Billy Jones, 19,Isle of Wight

There should be more awareness of road safety in schools. Lessons on road safety would improve young people's awareness of the road before they even start to drive.

I think people are driving too young these days and the age that you candrive a car should be increased, perhaps to 18 or 19. And I would putrestrictions on the size of engine that young drivers can have.

New drivers could also be limited to having only one passenger after 9pm- that would prevent young people trying to impress their mates bydriving fast.

I've heard about breathalisers attached to your car so that you can'tstart up the engine if you have been drinking. I think that sounds likea great idea and should be compulsory.

In the US they have a scheme where if you fit a safety camera in thefront of your car, which monitors how you're driving, you get lowerinsurance rates. Also, of course, you can have your licence taken awayif you drive dangerously.
