Opinion: If I were in charge of ... My school - Molly Garfoot, 11, London

1 min read
Teachers mostly care about SAT and GCSE results. If I were in charge, I'd keep exams, but I would help children a lot and not try to push them. I'd try to move them along and help them get it right. The worst thing is you feel that if you don't get everything right the teachers will make a massive fuss and tell you off. I would make sure that pupils knew they did it wrong but show them a better way of doing it. At the moment, because we are preparing for SATs, we only do English and maths, and sometimes it gets really boring. I'd have ICT or art one afternoon a week.

I'd also make changes to our school uniform. I think you need one, but at the moment girls can't wear trousers and boys don't have a summer uniform - they still have to wear ties. I'd introduce one colour for the uniform as well as polo-necks, trousers for girls and no ties for boys in summer.

We have clubs for special children who are good at something. For example, I love art but I'm not good enough to be in the class. I'd give other people a chance, even if they weren't very good.

Sometimes we must eat school meals even if we don't like them. I don't think this should happen, but maybe everyone should have at least one vegetable.
