- When did you meet?
Rebekah: "I came along one bonfire night with my sister and the Explorer Scouts seemed fun. I used to be in the Brownies but they didn't do a lot of the stuff the Scouts were doing."
Pamela: "It was in November 2005. Rebekah's older sister used to be in the group and Rebekah came along and expressed an interest in joining. She liked the fact that we did lots of outdoor activities and worked with both teenage boys and girls."
- What types of activities have you done together?
Rebekah: "It's mainly outdoor activities and things like that. Tonight, for instance, we're practising our climbing outside. I especially like the kayaking and have volunteered over the summer months helping out at Explorer Scout projects."
Pamela: "We meet up once a week and generally do outdoor activities. Rebekah has also come along to our camps and is helping to organise a trip for eight Explorer Scouts to a Jamboree in Holland. We're hoping she might get picked to go to Malaysia for an event next year too."
- Has Rebekah come to you for any advice?
Pamela: "Just the usual things such as advice about boys. All the girls seem to come to me for advice about boys. I'm not sure why they think I'm an expert."
Rebekah: "Pamela is really supportive. You can ask her anything and she will always try to help. Now I'm getting older and volunteering with the younger Explorers we're becoming more like friends which is also great."
- What will you do next?
Rebekah: "I'm hoping to go on to university and maybe do a course in sport and outdoor education. Attending Explorers has given me a focus on what I want to do with my life."
Pamela: "Rebekah has learned lots of skills that can be used in the future. I'm sure she'll find them really useful when she goes on to university."
