Me & my youth worker - 'She's become like a second mum'

Klair Thorpe, 18, and Lisa Middlehurst, youth work support co-ordinator for Wigan Council.

- When did you first meet?

Klair: "It was about four years ago. I heard about the youth club at Platt Bridge from my friends and went along because I wanted something to do. Lisa was the worker and seemed good fun."

Lisa: "It was an open-access youth club run from a family centre. It was popular with the young people but had to shut when the Sure Start centre based there closed. It was a shame but most of the young people had started to move onto other things."

- Did you stay in touch once the project ended?

Lisa: "No. Klair seemed to have moved on and it wasn't until I bumped into her brother two years ago and found out she was pregnant that we got back in touch. I was in the process of setting up Wigan's Young Mums' Project and invited Klair to come along."
