On the Ground: Me & My Youth Worker - 'Laura listened to our concerns'

1 min read Youth Work
Cameron Weir, 16, and Laura Nicholls, co-ordinator, St John Ambulance's Young Carers Project in Cheshire.

- When did you first meet?

Cameron: "I met Laura in February this year when she became co-ordinator of the young carers' project in Cheshire. I first started attending the scheme about seven years ago as my sister has had both physical and mental disabilities since birth and I help look after her. I also care for my dad too after he was injured in a car accident. He sometimes has problems remembering things and needs help pushing his wheelchair when we go out as a family.

Laura: "Cameron was one of the longest-serving members of the group when I took over as co- ordinator. I think we first met on a dry-slope skiing trip, which was great as you get to know young people informally."
