The board meets three times a year at weekend residentials. During the sessions, board members receive relevant training for their role, such as how to give presentations, how to manage their time and how to plan and organise events. They also use the residentials to engage in discussions with policy officials and feedback their thoughts on selected policy areas.
The Children and Youth Board also meets the minister for children on three occasions during the year to feedback its findings on the policy areas it has looked at between each meeting. The board also holds a national event each year, where children and young people from the nine government regions are invited to attend and give their views on the policy areas that the board have been looking at.
