NCB NOW: Young people speak out on drug issues

1 min read
An NCB project is ensuring that young people's views influence the Government's national drugs strategy.

The Home Office, DfES and the Department of Health have commissioned NCB to consult 14- to 19-year-olds on the cross-governmental strategy, which aims to reduce the harm caused by drugs and improve support for young people.

NCB has recruited 18 young people from across England to participate, including care leavers, sixth-form students and those in alternative schooling.

With support from their workers, the young people will consult their peers before feeding back their findings to Government at a series of meetings. They will also work with their local drugs advisory teams and attend seminars and conferences. Members of the group will give the opening speech at the National Conference on Young People and Substance Misuse in Leeds on 23 March.
