NCB Now: Parents need help on salt intake

1 min read
As more is known about the harmful effects of excess salt in our diets, the need for parents to be given help to address this issue is becoming ever greater. NCB is delighted that the Food Standards Agency (FSA) is funding NCB to run the All Salted? project, designed to reduce salt intake in young parents and their children.

NCB will work in partnership with three teenage pregnancy partnershipsto develop and implement a salt reduction life skills and healthprogramme with young parents. This will offer practical ideas to helpthem reduce their own and their children's salt intake.

The project will reinforce the messages promoted in the FSA's campaignand, most importantly, help embed awareness in local communities of theimportance of a low salt and healthy diet.

Jo Butcher, assistant director of children's development at NCB, said:"Young parents, especially those on low incomes, are already juggling alot, so reducing their children's salt intake is unlikely to be at thetop of their priority list. We know that they want to be good parentsand to do the best for their children's health and wellbeing, so we needto provide them with the tools to enable them to do so." - For moreinformation email Jo Butcher at jbutcher@ncb.
