1 min read
More than 100 young people from across Europe met in Cardiff from 24 to 27 October to discuss the future direction of EU youth policy.

The Cardiff Youth Event, organised by young people, was one in a seriesof events being held to mark the UK's presidency of the EuropeanUnion.

The event's main theme was the promotion of the participation of youngpeople in civic life at local level. Over the three days the youngdelegates produced a declaration setting out their agreedrecommendations on youth policy. This was then presented to JaneDavidson, the Welsh minister for education and lifelong learning, theEuropean Commission and the EU directors general for youth.

Tom Jeffery, the Department for Education and Skills' director generalfor children, young people and families, who co-chaired the concludingsessions with two young people, said the department would do more toensure that opportunities provided by European youth policy werereflected in our domestic agenda and more widely understood and taken upby young people.
