NCB Now: Young people help shape drugs policy

1 min read
NCB and the Drug Education Forum have produced a pack for policy makers and practitioners to help them improve young people's understanding of issues around drugs, and to engage them in tackling these problems.

The Be Aware pack is the result of a national participation project funded by the Department of Health.

It includes a leaflet designed and written by young people, providing their peers with information about alcohol and other drugs, what services are available to them and how young people can get involved in shaping policy and practice in their local area. There is also a handbook for practitioners including ideas for participation work.

"Young people tell us they want to be involved in all issues to do with their lives," said Simon Blake, assistant director of children's development at NCB, who facilitated the Be Aware project. "They have the motivation, talents and creativity to help adults develop work which meets their needs in a realistic and honest way.'
