NCB Now: Newsletter examines transition issues

1 min read
The Council for Disabled Children, which is based at NCB, has launched a newsletter for professionals working with disabled young people in transition to adulthood.

Getting a life aims to provide quarterly updates on relevant government legislation, guidance and policy as well as highlighting useful organisations, events and publications.

The first edition looks at the implications of the National Service Framework and the work of the Transition Information Network, which was set up in response to the growing demand for information on the transition process.

The newsletter will also feature case studies from organisations around the country, with this issue concentrating on the Young Adults Team, a Bolton multi agency transition group which aims to help young people achieve their potential and remain in their local community.

"Disabled young people and their families often find the transition to adulthood both stressful and difficult. For many, there has been a lack of co-ordination between relevant agencies and little involvement from the young people themselves," said Lucia Winters, development officer, Council for Disabled Children.
