NCB Now: Member news -- Catch22

Most young people aged between 16 and 25 work their way towards living independently. The state, however, requires boundaries and legal clarity for entitlements and responsibilities. As a result, the journey into adulthood can feel like dropping off a series of steep cliffs.

The way many support services are currently structured leads to a number of artificial cut-off points fixed around age, which can leave vulnerable young people to deal with unsuitable adult services that don't account for the differing needs of young people.

Catch22's Ready or Not campaign aims to highlight that becoming a fully independent adult doesn't happen overnight. It's a process that moves at different speeds for each young person.

Catch22 wants decisive action to overhaul the entire approach to young adulthood. Young people who lack a family and community networks to support them emotionally and financially need much better policies in order to help them establish themselves as independent adults with a job, a home, and a stable future.
