Our best practice: Shield South Yorkshire and its services

Shield South Yorkshire offers support to people living with HIV and Hepatitis C, including family and friends. We believe our young people's needs are not solely related to their HIV or Hepatitis C status but they have similar decisions and life choices to make as other young people.

Young people come to the Shield centres to access services including one-to-one support, social activities and complimentary therapies in a safe environment.

We have a qualified JNC youth worker who co-ordinates personal, social and health education projects with schools across South Yorkshire to deliver awareness sessions. Young people can ask questions and gain more understanding of the issues. Through this unique approach, we hope direct support for young people living with HIV, alongside an improved awareness among their peers, will see a generation of young people who are more aware of HIV.
