NCB Now: Disabled children's services now a priority

1 min read
Last month, the government voiced a renewed focus on the needs of disabled children.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families prioritised disabled children as a key group throughout the Children's Plan.

The Department of Health has also included disabled children as one of the four local priority groups for service improvement, through the NHS operating framework.

The Every Disabled Child Matters (EDCM) campaign has been a main force behind this impetus and EDCM is currently urging primary care trusts to sign their PCT charter. They are also asking the 50 councils signed up to their local authority charter to prove their commitment, by including the disabled children's indicator as one of their 35 priorities in their local area agreements.
