The Department of Health has launched a consultation inviting views on how individuals and communities, as well as the government, the voluntary sector, industry and the media, can improve people's health.

The consultation contains questions for individuals, communities and organisations on areas including creating and maintaining a healthy environment and the role of regulation.

Responses will be fed into the different task force groups to start building and delivering a strategy to promote and ensure the nation's good health.

The deadline is 28 May.

The Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Nigel Williams, has commissioned Queens University to undertake a major research study comparing children's rights and welfare in Northern Ireland against the framework of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The research will highlight where children's rights are being ignored, are under threat or are undervalued in Northern Ireland in comparison with other nations.

Comments are invited via a questionnaire which is available at www.childpolicy.org.uk.

The DfES has issued a consultation document which explains proposals that will give LEAs the freedom to trial new approaches for school transport tailored to their local needs.

The aim is to address the serious social, environmental and health problems associated with the school run.

In September 2003, the DfES and the Department for Transport announced 50m over two years to support schools and local authorities to reduce car dependency and to encourage children to walk, cycle and take the bus. The consultation deadline is 25 June.
