NCB Now: Bullying - you can stop it, says alliance

1 min read
Bullying in schools is not acceptable, and can be stopped. That is the message to young people, parents and teachers from the Anti-Bullying Alliance, based at NCB, which has received 570,000 in funding from the Department for Education and Skills. Education minister Ivan Lewis announced the funding at the alliance's launch on 15 July.

"There is a wealth of expertise to help address bullying," said Gill Frances, director of Children's Development at NCB, who is managing the anti-bullying programme.

"We want to get children, young people and adults working together to develop strategies that help both those being bullied and those who bully others.

We warmly welcome the funding from the DfES which will enable us to share the excellent anti-bullying work already happening with schools who want further support."

Recent research by Childline found that one fifth of primary school pupils and one quarter of pupils in Year 8 perceived bullying as a 'big problem' in their school.
