Christopher will be continuing the alliance's successful campaign to reduce bullying and promote more effective approaches to dealing with the problem.
"Bullying is a key concern for children and young people and we all need to play a part in stopping it," he said. "As the new chair of the Anti-Bullying Alliance I look forward to this challenge and to working with the wide range of groups and organisations that are contributing in different ways."
Recent activities organised by the alliance's regional co-ordinators include a billboard campaign in Birmingham designed by young people, while a conference in London, at which Lord Puttnam spoke about the negative effects of violent films on young people, attracted widespread media attention.
