NCB Now: ABA commissions bullying research

1 min read
The Anti-Bullying Alliance, which is based at NCB, has commissioned a research and evaluation team to advise on findings related to bullying and anti-bullying initiatives and develop further projects in this area.

The work will be led by Professor Peter Smith, head of school and familystudies at Goldsmiths College, who has an international reputation forhis work in examining school bullying and ways of preventing it.

As part of the research and evaluation programme, the alliance willorganise a think-tank to undertake work in this area, produce guidancefor schools and local authorities on data collection and monitoring, andgather information from other countries about their experience intackling bullying.

In addition, the team will analyse and advise the alliance on researchrelating to the use of specific approaches to tackling bullying.

"Although there is a great deal of useful debate about different ways oftackling bullying, we do not yet have enough clear evidence about whatreally works," said Simon Blake, national manager of the alliance. "Theresearch team's work should provide a stronger knowledge base, enablingus to judge particular approaches with confidence."
