National Youth Agency: Celebrating the achievements of young people and solutions for engaging them

1 min read
A new publication from the Local Government Association (LGA) celebrates the achievements of young people and looks at local solutions for engaging them. It features a series of case studies prepared by the National Youth Agency.

This is the third publication in the LGA series HiddenTalents: re-engaging young people - the LGA programme to look at solutions for engaging all of our young people aged 16 to 24 into positive activity.

The first book in the series looked at the scale of the issues faced by young people who are not engaged in education, employment or training and the long-term impact on their futures. A further publication looks at potential solutions to enable more effective local responses. Both are available at www.lga.gov.uk/hiddentalents.

Case studies are supplemented by further studies on the LGA website and publicity materials that can be used to promote the message of celebrating what young people can do. They highlight a range of factors that can disengage young people from learning and employment. For most of these young people, disengagement is the outcome of a long-term process of disaffection and marginalisation, often the culmination of a range of experiences, circumstances and disadvantage.
