My Life: Dominic Thomas James, 14, Swansea

1 min read
When I was 13, I started a campaign called The Familiar Stranger to raise awareness of homelessness.

As part of this I wrote a poem called Familiar Stranger, inspired by the homeless people I have seen.

It centres around a 65-year-old homeless man that I used to pass every day on my way to school. It was published in my local newspaper.

People offered food, clothing and shelter to him as a result.

Part of it reads:

"With all the help you turned away.

The Good Samaritan let you stray,

Your world in a brown paper bag.

For all the world to see you are worthless and sad."

It finishes: "Your soul is fading now, I'm afraid to say.

And I just want you to know, I thought of you each day."
