My Life: Llinos Mai Thomas, 17, Anglesey

1 min read
I was nominated for a Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for young people last year, due to my fundraising for the Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, which was looking to raise 10m to build a new oncology unit.

We raised nearly 8,000 through sponsored bike rides for this appeal.

This charity work was inspired by my battle against cancer. I underwent chemotherapy treatment at Alder Hey when I was 12-years-old. I'm now fully recovered.

For several months I have been running a campaign to improve children's health facilities in north Wales. Severe distress is caused to seriously ill children and their families by having to travel so far to Alder Hey from their Welsh communities.

The campaign is going very well, we have the support of some politicians and the children's commissioner for Wales. Our petition has been signed by more than 8,300 people across north Wales.
