It is extremely dangerous to sideline parents in addressing issues of child safety. We all know there are significant numbers of abuse cases involving parents or others living in the household. However, this probably applies to fewer than half of one per cent of all children. We must be concerned as well about the welfare of the other 99.5 per cent. Even where there is abuse in the family, it rarely involves both partners. Working with parents still has a role, even under those circumstances.
