Letters: Ten-hour school day is wrong

I am shocked by Charles Clarke's proposal that children's day in school can be extended to 10 hours. Children, especially young children, need to be in an intimate, warm and relaxed environment. At the end of the school day they should be entitled to this.

What is wrong with this Government? Why are they so against good parenting?

Why are they prepared to pay someone else to look after my child while I go out to work and yet they will not give me the allowance? Is it because too many of them were packed off to boarding school and perhaps their parents were not really that interested in parenting?
