Letters: Support is needed at any age

1 min read
In his editorial (Children Now, 18 August, p15), Stovin Hayter rightly discusses the importance of childcare and the current problems affecting the sector.

However, while providing good support for young children and their families is critical, this support must be available for young people through adolescence to young adulthood. All too often there is an unbalanced focus on childcare in relation to the difficulties faced by parents of teenagers.

The Government has now recognised the importance of focusing on young people and promises a green paper for youth. It must ensure that its proposal of a "new integrated youth offer" meets the needs of the homeless and socially excluded young people we support at Centrepoint. Otherwise, young people will continue to be one of the most disenfranchised groups in society.
