Letter: Education Bill worries

While much of the debate on the Education and Inspections Bill has been centred on selection our organisations are concerned about clause 90 (Children Now, 12-18 April).

Clause 90 creates a new offence by stipulating that if a child has beenexcluded for up to five days, parents will commit an offence if theirchild is in public during school hours. This imposes a potentially hugeburden on parents.

Money would be better spent on multi-agency work with vulnerablefamilies.

Jan Fry, director of external relations, Parentline Plus, and ChrisGravell, policy officer, Advisory Centre for Education.
