Janice Lo, 18, London

I was born and raised in Hong Kong and always assumed that my childhood was pretty multi-cultural. Since coming here for sixth-form education September 2007, I soon realised that I wasn't entirely correct in my assumptions.

The transition to British culture was not difficult, I settled down in my new school soon after arriving. However, having lived in an almost completely capitalist environment it was an interesting experience living in what I reckon is a largely socialist country, while observing China's gradual transition to a politically socialist but economically capitalist one.

In my leisure time I play the piano and the violin and also paint. For A-levels, I am doing further mathematics, economics, government and politics, biology and Chinese. I am going to study economics and politics at university. I have no idea what I want to do in the future, so at the moment I'm just enjoying life.
