When I was 17 I did a 10-week internship at financial software services firm Bloomberg as part of my career academy programme.

Though I was the youngest there, I soon settled in and was assigned several projects, such as making sure that information from companies such as Lehman Brothers was put onto the system. I helped out other members of the team at a recruitment event and did some work shadowing, observing what other roles in the company involve.

I can now communicate better and have gained knowledge about working in business. In fact, for the past two summers Bloomberg has invited me back. Now I'm studying for a BSc in accounting and business management at the University of Westminster. Before the career academy I didn't think that someone like me, who had to retake GCSE maths, could get so far.
