Dancing was initially something I did as a release. It got me away from situations, and I could express myself in a non-violent way. When I got angry, I could dance and it would help me switch off and settle down.

I was dancing with East London Dance Company, and it was recommended to me that I come to Lewisham College because they did good courses. At first I was like "I don't want to wear that uni-tard, boys don't wear that," but after a while I got over it and you just forget about it. I found the training very demanding, especially in the first year, but I loved the course; it really prepares you for the next level and I've got a place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

If young guys are looking for a career in dance, but are worried about what their friends will say, I'd say to them you have to be stubborn, and just take yourself away from the environment that isn't helping you get where you want to be.
