I got pregnant at the age of 16 and now I am a volunteer for Home-Start, a charity that supports families that are struggling.

I like the fact that I visit people in their homes because it's on their terms. I can help them with their parenting skills by telling them what I've been through so that they know they are not alone. I'm a mum, not someone from social services or a health visitor.

I notice changes in the people I visit. They go out and they're more comfortable that they're doing the right thing with their children, not that I'm telling them what to do.

Don't ever let someone tell you that because you're a young mum you can't go anywhere. I'd be the first to stand there and say, look at me. If I didn't have my son I wouldn't be on this road now so I'm really grateful for him. I only wish that maybe when I was a bit younger and had a baby that I had someone like a Home-Start volunteer to offer me support.
