Jenny Coles could never have imagined her year as president of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) would start with a health crisis the like of which has not been seen for a century. The coronavirus pandemic looks set to be the defining feature of her presidency. Plans, months in the making, have had to be put to one side as the association focuses on supporting directors of children’s services (DCS) to lead the local response to the crisis.

“The planning is slightly different to what I had anticipated,” says Coles before adding that it is both “daunting and an honour” to undertake the role.
