
In 1991, Peter O’Hara left his job at Camden Council to set up, alongside two others, care tech business OLM. Using £1,000 in savings and “begging and borrowing” from friends and family, it took three years before he was able to pay himself a wage. But from uncertain beginnings, the company has gone from strength to strength and has been at the forefront of the modernisation of social care delivery for children and adults for several decades. OLM now works with 38 children’s services departments and has 31,000 users of its children’s software. And last month, O’Hara, now chief executive of OLM, was recognised for his contributions with the award of an MBE in the King’s birthday honours.
