International Youth Day: Shoreditch sets up consultation event

1 min read

The Shore Thing youth forum, part of the Shoreditch Trust and the Hackney Youth Parliament, organised the Cooking Up Our Future event on 12 August. It hoped to build cultural bridges between more than 1,000 11- to 21-year-olds from different backgrounds and heritages.

Young Londoners were able to chat to peers from 12 countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Spain, France, Italy and Holland, via four Net Stations in youth clubs across east London. Young people helped to create the secure online platform and were trained to moderate the online discussions.

Ali Karakas, youth development officer at the Shoreditch Trust, said: "We wanted to take part in International Youth Day because many of the issues are problems that the youth of Shoreditch face on a daily basis."
