What it is: A Nottingham-based play centre for disabled children, their families and carers

Goal: To encourage inclusion for disabled children across Nottingham andthe surrounding area and support their needs as well as those offamilies and carers

Funding: A fifth comes from Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire Countycouncils.

The remaining money comes from fundraising, primary care trust cash andgrants from, among others, Sure Start and the Children's Fund

Although launched in 1987 by parents seeking to run play sessions fordisabled children at community venues, the breakthrough for The PlayCentre came in 1991 when it was donated land and buildings to create itsown centre. This included pre-fabricated buildings from chocolate firmThorntons and a lease on land owned by Nottinghamshire CountyCouncil.
