Integration through play is often cited by play schemes and nurseries as their raison d'etre. But delivering schemes on the ground can prove to be harder in practice.

The Liverpool Early Years Centre in Walton, run by charity Scope, is one scheme that aims to be fully integrated.

The centre has 61 places that are equally split between disabled and able-bodied children. It is open for 52 weeks of the year, offering a range of services to children and families.
