A young father who attends Shankill's Dads Matter programme was at homewith his baby when she started to choke.

"His mum patted her on the back," says Irene Cook, project co-ordinatorat Shankill Sure Start. "But he knew the right thing to do - he put hisfinger in the baby's mouth and removed the object. He wouldn't haveknown that if he hadn't learnt about child safety with us."

Dads Matter is one of many programmes run by the Belfast project, whichcelebrates five years of being a Sure Start in October. The programme isfor male carers aged 18 to their early 20s and it enables fathers toshare experiences and discuss the importance of being a dad.
