What it is: A project aimed at raising awareness of the difficulties facing low-income families with school children in Bedfordshire

Goals: To reduce the burden on families struggling with uniform and other education costs

Covering the cost of uniforms, trips and fund-raising events at school can be stressful at the best of times. But for low-income families with more than one child in state school it can be particularly difficult and potentially stigmatising, which is where The Cost of a Free Education can help.

The Bedford-based project combines the skills of a local charity, regional agencies and the local education authority, and provides grants to families identified as needing additional financial help while putting children through school.
