Covering the cost of uniforms, trips and fund-raising events at school can be stressful at the best of times. But for low-income families with more than one child in state school it can be particularly difficult and potentially stigmatising, which is where The Cost of a Free Education can help.
The Bedford-based project combines the skills of a local charity, regional agencies and the local education authority, and provides grants to families identified as needing additional financial help while putting children through school.
